Microsoft mengumumkan kepada publik tentang celah keamanan baru pada produk Operating system windows berupa kerentanan dalam Windows Graphics Rendering Engine. Hacker berhasil mengeksploitasi kelemahan ini dan dapat menjalankan kode dengan sewenang-wenang serta mengambil alih akses administator pada komputer pengguna. Hacker kemudian dapat menginstal program, melihat, mengubah, atau menghapus data, atau membuat account baru dengan hak pengguna penuh sebagai admin .

Agar dapat terhindar dari serangan hacker, sebaiknya saat sedang online tidak mengaktifkan fitur thumbnail pada windows explorer atau thumbnail gambar pada microsoft word dan powerpoint. Microsoft menyarankan pengguna untuk melakukan pembatasan aktifitas pada file shimgvw.dll, yaitu sebuah file dynamic library yang dibutuhkan oleh windows untuk memunculkan gambar secara thumbnail.
